ANALYSIS

Player Analysis: Since joining the league in 2004, Lee Evans has been building a case for a premier role in the Buffalo passing attack. With the departure of Eric Moulds in the off-season, Evans will get his chance in the '06 season. A little undersized, Evans is incapable of going up for jump balls and competing with larger defenders. However, Lee Evans possesses capabilities to do everything necessary between the hash marks by running crisp routes and utilizing his explosion and agility to gain separation. In addition, that speed allows him to go deep and make plays.

Fantasy Football Impact: With good speed, quickness, and acceleration, Lee Evans possesses the full package to separate from defenders and should have a breakout season as the number one threat.

Bills stifle Miami 21-0 to keep hope alive - 12/17/2006
Source: NFL.com

J.P. Losman kept Buffalo's slim playoff hopes alive and provided further proof why he's earned the Bills' starting job beyond this season. Losman overcame wet and blustery conditions, throwing three touchdown passes in a 21-0 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Buffalo (7-7) has won five of its last seven, rallying from a 2-5 start to the season. The Dolphins (6-8), coming off a 21-0 win over New England, were eliminated from postseason contention despite losing for only the second time in seven weeks. The Bills defense was solid, forcing two interceptions while limiting the Dolphins to 118 yards through three quarters and 212 overall. It was Buffalo's first shutout since a 2003 season-opening 31-0 win over New England, and first against the Dolphins since a 29-0 win in November 1987. Bills cornerback Nate Clements continued a string of strong games against Miami, registering his ninth interception against the AFC East rival. It came on Miami's first play of the second half, and on the next play after Jason Taylor had forced a Losman fumble to give the Dolphins the ball at the Bills 44. Losman was otherwise efficient in finishing 13-of-19 for 200 yards passing. He rebounded from the fumble by hitting Josh Reed over the middle for a 27-yard TD catch and run to put the Bills up 14-0 midway through the third quarter. Losman also hit a wide-open Robert Royal for a 33-yard touchdown to open the scoring, and sealed the win with a perfectly placed 21-yard touch pass to Lee Evans early in the fourth quarter. It was a performance that came after Bills coach Dick Jauron announced this week that Losman had earned the right to be the team's starter going into next season. Losman was twice benched last year and forced to regain the starting job during a three-way offseason competition before this season. The second of Buffalo's two 2004 first-round draft picks, Losman has now thrown 10 touchdowns and four interceptions in his past seven games. Miami's Joey Harrington went 5-of-17 for 20 yards passing and two interceptions before being pulled in favor of Cleo Lemon in the fourth quarter. Sammy Morris had 71 yards rushing.

Bills zoom past Jets, 31-13 - 12/10/2006
Source: NFL.com

Erik Coleman knew the New York Jets had just blown a great opportunity to improve their playoff chances, so he couldn't hide his frustration. "This is a big hiccup right here," the Jets safety said softly. "We'll see what kind of team we are. We'll see if we bounce back." Three big plays by the Buffalo Bills put a huge crimp in the Jets' postseason plans. Willis McGahee scored on a 57-yard run, Lee Evans had a 77-yard TD catch and Nate Clements returned an interception 58 yards for a score in the Bills' 31-13 victory. "It definitely hurts to get beat like that at home," Coleman said. "It hurts to get beat like that anytime, but especially at home." Buffalo (6-7) looked more like the playoff contender than the Jets (7-6), winning for the third time in four games. "The season is not over," Bills quarterback J.P. Losman said. "We have a long way to go. If we keep winning, you never know what will happen at the end." It was the third time in Bills history, and first since Sept. 24, 1989, at Houston, that they had three plays of over 50 yards in a game. It was also the first time since 1965 that the Bills had a rushing TD and passing score of over 50 yards in a game. "It wasn't the plan to come out and pound them," Losman said. "The plan was to come out firing, come out throwing. The way the game went, getting on top early and taking the crowd out of it, we just had to go with it." McGahee, who playfully told Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma during the week that he couldn't be stopped, had 125 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries -- despite missing the second quarter because he was sick on the bench. He has gained 100 or more yards in each of his last five games against New York. "Willis was really sick," coach Dick Jauron said. "I don't know why. It's not very often, in an NFL game, you see a player sitting on the bench eating a sandwich. We had to get some food in him. He came back and obviously played really well." The Jets, who began a season-ending stretch of four games against teams under .500, failed to take advantage of AFC East-leading New England's 21-0 loss to Miami. New York remained two games behind the Patriots -- and just a game ahead of the surging Bills and Dolphins. "Today was almost like a step back," linebacker Victor Hobson said. "Especially with the way we've been playing and the way we know we can play and the way we expect to come out and play."

Evans' yards, Losman's rally saves Bills - 11/19/2006
Source: NFL.com

Lee Evans set the team record, then Peerless Price won the game. J.P. Losman hit a diving Price in the back of the end zone for the 15-yard touchdown with 13 seconds left, giving Buffalo a 24-21 win over the Houston Texans. The play was reviewed, but upheld by officials as Price dragged both feet inbounds. Price, an eight-year NFL veteran, doesn't mind that Evans is the go-to receiver. He just wants to help out. "I feel like I can make plays to help us win ballgames," he said. "But when Lee was having the type of day he was having, keep feeding him. I'm all for it ... but when your number's called, you've got to be able to make a play and I was able to do that." Evans had 11 receptions for 265 yards to break the franchise single-game receiving mark of 255 yards held by Jerry Butler since 1979. "It's truly special," Evans said of the record. "It's good to celebrate it with a win." David Carr tied the NFL record for consecutive completions with 22 in the loss. Losman was unstoppable in the first quarter, throwing for 209 yards, but managed just 76 yards after that until the winning drive. On that march, he completed six passes for 55 yards. "As a kid that's your dream," Losman said of throwing the winner. "The game is on the line and you practice as if it's your last play -- that no matter what happens we have to get this ball." The game marked the first time the Bills' offense scored three touchdowns since Dec. 4, 2005. Peerless Price was able to drag both feet inbounds for the game-winning score. Peerless Price was able to drag both feet inbounds for the game-winning score. The catch by Price was just his second of the game and he finished with 21 yards receiving. "It was a great catch," Bills coach Dick Jauron said. "He's a professional, he works at it and he doesn't complain. I like to have him around."

WR Evans sums up Bills offense by calling it `awful' - 11/14/2006
Source: National Football League News Wire

Add wide receiver Lee Evans to the growing number of critics of the Buffalo Bills offense. "It's awful," the Bills receiver said after practice Monday. The usually soft-spoken Evans provided the blunt assessment a day after the Bills increasingly inept offense failed to produce a touchdown in a 17-16 loss at Indianapolis. "It's just been bad. And until we get that fixed, it's going to continue to be bad," Evans said, specifically referring to the Bills coming away with six points -- two field goals -- on three trips inside the Colts 20. "When you're down in the red zone like that with opportunities to go up in the game and you don't do anything? It's bad," he added. "It's just bad all the way around." Evans singled out the offense as the unit that held the Bills back in a game where defense and special teams put Buffalo (3-6) in a position to hand the Colts (9-0) their first loss of the season. "Yeah, I'm mad," Evans said. "People talk about, 'Oh, you all played an 8-0 team.' It means nothing. Moral victories at this point in the season mean absolutely nothing. "Right now, either you win or you're going home, period," he added. "It's too late in the season for moral victories. I think coach (Dick) Jauron said it best. He said: 'I love where we're going, not where we're at." The Bills, who play at Houston on Sunday, are likely to miss the playoffs for a seventh straight season. Against a banged up Indianapolis defense, Buffalo mustered a season-low 162 yards on offense -- the fourth time this year the Bills have been held under 200. The Bills managed just five yards on nine plays inside the Colts 22. They were held without a touchdown for the second time in three games. And after generating four first downs on their opening drive, the Bills managed six more the rest of the game. The defense scored Buffalo's lone touchdown on Terrence McGee's 68-yard fumble return. That means the Bills offense has scored as many touchdowns -- two -- as its defense has produced in the past three games. What bothers Evans is how the Bills squandered their scoring opportunities, including settling for a field goal after McGee's 88-yard kickoff return gave Buffalo the ball at the Colts 12. "We were playing from their side of the field and couldn't do anything," Evans said. "That's what's frustrating. It was right there for us to take and we couldn't get it done." Evans, recently named a Bills offensive co-captain, was careful to not single out any coach or player. And it's evident the problems go beyond J.P. Losman, who has been inconsistent at best in his second year as a starter. Buffalo's offense is hampered by a patchwork line, which now features first-time starters at both tackles, with Jason Peters on the left side and rookie Terrance Pennington on the right. Buffalo is also minus running back Willis McGahee, out indefinitely with three broken ribs, and slot receiver Josh Reed (bruised kidney). Losman backed Evans' comments, saying they're shared by the offense as a whole. "If he feels like it's now his turn to be vocal about it, maybe he's just giving everyone else a break," Losman said. The important thing is for the Bills to correct their deficiencies. "We know what we need to fix," Losman said. Jauron also spread the blame. "J.P. is part of some of the problems that we have, but he's certainly not the only person," Jauron said. "It seems like people take turns and the mistakes hurt us. ... We need to score. It's hard to win football games on field goals."

Without the cherry (shutout), Bears defense not so cheery - 10/09/2006
Source: Daily Southtown

With 1:06 to play, Buffalo's Lee Evans scored on a 5-yard pass from J.P. Losman and the Bears ended up winning 40-7. Cindy Crawford could have proffered a stem, tied into a knot, on her tongue, but the damage would have still been done. Besides, that chick has a mole. "Yeah, it was disappointing," Brian Urlacher said. "We thought we had a shutout, but it didn't work out. "We did beat them 40-7. That's pretty good." Pretty good? The Bears limited Willis McGahee, who entered the game as the NFL's leading rusher, to 50 yards on 14 carries. They had a linebacker, a lineman and a cornerback intercept Losman and sacked him three times. Two of those sacks went to rookie Mark Anderson, leading one press box wag to label the Pro Bowler he replaced "Wale Pipp." Of course, it was that kind of day for press box cutting-up. Considering two pigeons spent as much time on the field as the Bills offense, it was wondered at one point if Buffalo's best play might be a squab kick.

NY Jets 28, Buffalo 20 - 09/25/2006
Source: Yahoo

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- Chad Pennington made up for the New York Jets' lack of a running game. Pennington capped three drives of 58 yards or more with touchdowns, and linebacker Victor Hobson's 32-yard fumble return for a score helped the Jets to a 28-20 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Hobbs hobbles Evans - 09/11/2006
Source: Boston.com

Attempting to limit the big-play capability of Bills receiver Lee Evans, the Patriots called on Hobbs the way they used to with former cornerback Ty Law. Instead of having Hobbs stay on one side, he was told to follow Evans wherever he lined up. The results were impressive. Evans, who has 16 touchdowns in his first two seasons while averaging 16.5 yards per catch, finished with two receptions for 25 yards.

Fantasy Impact: It may be early in his career, but Hobbs may be on his way to becoming a premier corner in this league and if he can prove that he can make the big plays he may be worthy of at least a backup spot in an IDP league. Owners of Lee Evans should not panic, and against a Miami secondary that struggled in week one Evans could have a good day.

Losman's time is now - 09/10/2006
Source: democratandchronicle.com

Second chances. Tackling adversity. Persevering. Getting mad, then getting even. Losman may have lost his starting job to veteran Kelly Holcomb twice last season, but it's his job again. He earned it during an open competition with Holcomb and free agent Craig Nall that began last spring under a new coaching staff.

Fantasy Impact: Losman has a tough challenge in the first week of his second stint as starter, but in the future Losman may be able to demonstrate the ability to be a backup fantasy QB.

Losman Named Starting Quarterback - 08/29/2006
Source: BuffaloBills.com, RealFootball365.com

Head Coach Dick Jauron has officially announced J.P. Losman as the team's starting QB.

Fantasy Impact: Although J.P. Losman's career thus far has been less than stellar, there have been bright spots in the preseason in 2006 and Losman could be an intriguing pick as a late-round backup in the new offense.

Bills improving despite loss - 08/28/2006
Source: Scout.com, FoxSports.com, FoxSports.com

Bills fans welcomed back Takeo Spikes, who played his first game in 11 months since tearing his right Achilles' tendon. The two-time Pro Bowl linebacker played in two series and had one tackle stopping Ruben Droughns for 2 yards on the Browns' first play to a loud and appreciative home crowd. Receiver Peerless Price caught his first pass this preseason, a 56-yard touchdown reception, while quarterback J.P. Losman all but secured the starting job with an efficient outing. Late in the first half, Losman hit Lee Evans on strikes of 14, 9 and 16 yards to move Buffalo to the Cleveland 7.

Fantasy Impact: The Bills' preseason game against the Browns demonstrated the abilities of Takeo Spikes, J.P. Losman, Peerless Price, and Lee Evans. Although Willis McGahee struggled, he remains the best pick on the Bills and the only cause for concern is the offensive line in front of him.

Bills WR Price returns to practice - 08/24/2006
Source: ESPN.com, foxsports.com

Buffalo Bills receiver Peerless Price returned to practice Thursday, a day after he was held out because of a sore triceps. Price is expected to play Saturday when Buffalo hosts Cleveland. The seven-year NFL veteran is slotted as the No. 2 receiver behind Lee Evans, but has been held without a catch in Buffalo's first two preseason games.

Fantasy Impact: After a below average preseason in terms of production, this injury could help Josh Reed to sneak into the starter spot opposite Lee Evans. Price still appears to be in the lead for the job, but after mediocre seasons elsewhere and an unsure quarterback situation he is a risky proposition.

Bills' two new veteran receivers must elevate their games - 08/17/2006
Source: realfootball365.com

One reception, eight yards. The above total is all Buffalo Bills receivers Peerless Price and Andre' Davis could muster in their first preseason game last weekend. The duo was brought in during the free-agency period to help bolster a Bills receiving corps that lost its most experienced and productive pass catcher, Eric Moulds, in April. Out of Price, Davis, Josh Reed, Sam Aiken, Jonathan Smith, George Wilson and Martin Nance, the Bills can't keep everyone. In fact, they'll probably be able to retain four - at most.

Fantasy Impact: As two promising receivers, Peerless Price and Andre' Davis are still enigmas. While Price may be considered a good choice for the starting position opposite Lee Evans, both are still far too risky to choose high in the draft.
