ANALYSIS

Player Analysis: Bennett has put up decent numbers in his 5 years in the NFL but never could establish himself as a reliable starting back. He had one season in 2002 where with his explosiveness and speed he averaged 5.1 yards per carry and totaled 1296 rushing yards. Since then though, running as part of a committee in Minnesota, he hasn't broke the 500 yard rushing mark. New Orleans signed Bennett as insurance due to McAllister's ACL surgery. However they seemed to need this insurance less after that they drafted Reggie Bush, so he was traded to KC.

Fantasy Football Impact: Now backing up possibly the top fantasy pick in Larry Johnson, Bennett should have little fantasy value unless L.J. goes down. It might be a good idea to draft him in the later rounds as insurance for L.J.

RECENTLY BREAKING NEWS

Chiefs add Bennett to backfield via trade with Saints - 08/02/2006
Source: ESPN.com, msnbc.com, South Florida Sun-Sentinel

With the future of Priest Holmes still undetermined, the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday night acquired running back Michael Bennett from the New Orleans Saints for an undisclosed draft choice. The subject of considerable trade talk ever since the Saints chose Reggie Bush in the first round of the draft, Bennett will become the primary backup to starter Larry Johnson. The absence of Holmes, and the possibility that he might be forced to retire because of head and neck injuries sustained last season, left the Chiefs perilously thin at the position.

Fantasy Impact: By trading Bennett the Saints have cleared out a crowded backfield for Reggie Bush and given Bennett a chance to contribute a little more as the number one backup to Larry Johnson. Both number two backs' production should benefit.

Chiefs acquire RB Bennett - 08/02/2006
Source: yahoo.com, espn.com

The Kansas City Chiefs acquired running back Michael Bennett from the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday, but insisted that didn't mean Priest Holmes would retire.

Fantasy Impact: Bennett is an insurance policy against a Priest Holmes retirement, or at least a lengthy absence, which seems pretty likely at this point.

Bush agrees to 6-year deal with Saints - 07/30/2006
Source: ESPN.com, topix.net, enterprise-journal.com

I'm kind of shocked he's (coming) here this early, but I'm glad, and I'm sure the rest of the team is glad Baby Matrix is here, said wide receiver Joe Horn, who came up with the "Baby Matrix" nickname for Bush. Bush was the second overall pick after Houston took defensive end Mario Williams, then signed him to a six-year, $54 million contract, with $26.5 million guaranteed. Reported incentives could increase the value of Williams' deal to a little more than $60 million.

Fantasy Impact: Reggie Bush possesses unparalleled talent that should help him to rise to #2 on the depth chart almost immediately and supplant Michael Bennett. The only question with Bush is how high his stats will go, and he should make a solid second fantasy running back or even number one.

Faulk to miss season with knee surgery; future uncertain - 07/21/2006
Source: espn.com, yahoo.com

St. Louis Rams running back Marshall Faulk will have major reconstructive knee surgery and miss the 2006 season, a blow that could spell the end of his career.

Fantasy Impact: Faulk obviously will have no fantasy value this year, and this surgery will likely end his incredible career. The Rams will be looking elsewhere for someone to replace Faulk as Jackson's backup, with two possibilities being Michael Bennett of the Saints, and Chris Brown of the Titans.
