Player Analysis: McNabb is among the best QBs in the NFL. He has a strong arm, a smart head, and great mobility. Due to a sports hernia, he played in only 9 games last year, throwing for 2507 yards and 16 TDs. The problem was, many of those numbers went to Terrell Owens, who has since moved on to Dallas. His accuracy was above 60% once in his career, and he is running less as he gets older. He loves to spread the ball around and hit multiple targets, but with so few reliable targets around him, who knows whether that motive will hold up.
Fantasy Football Impact: While McNabb is one of the best QBs in terms of ability and leadership, his numbers will be closer his pre-TO days. However, the addition of Stallworth figures to boost his numbers as long as he can get acclimated with the offense quickly. He should be starter-worthy in all leagues.

Minus McNabb, Eagles rely more on Westbrook - 11/30/2006 Source: National Football League News Wire Maybe Brian Westbrook was right all along.
Given the chance to run more, Westbrook is putting up big
numbers for the Philadelphia Eagles. The versatile running back
already has a career-best 839 yards rushing, including three
straight 100-yard games.
Westbrook has never been satisfied with the amount of carries he
gets in an offense that has relied heavily on the pass under coach
Andy Reid. He often has said that he can be a workhorse-type back
who carries the ball 20-25 times per game.
Now that Donovan McNabb is out for the season, Westbrook is
Philadelphia's primary threat on offense and the Eagles have been
more committed to running the ball lately.
"I think we've needed to run the football a little bit more and
the situation has kind of presented itself that we have to run the
football a little bit more," Westbrook said. "The offensive line
is getting it done. Prior to that, we hadn't called on our running
game as much.
"Hopefully we'll continue to run the ball and control the
clock, but we have to score, whether it's through the run or the
pass."
Westbrook tied a career-high with 22 carries for 113 yards in a
27-3 win over Washington on Nov. 12. He ran the ball another 22
times for 102 yards in a loss to Tennessee the following week.
With Jeff Garcia replacing the injured McNabb at quarterback,
the Eagles stuck to their plan to run despite falling behind early
in a 45-21 loss to Indianapolis on Sunday night. Westbrook finished
with 20 carries for 124 yards, becoming the first Eagles player to
surpass 100 yards three games in a row since Wilbert Montgomery did
it in 1981.
"We're disappointed that we're not over .500, so the rushing
totals don't mean much to me," Westbrook said. "We can't be
negative. We have to find positive things to build on. We need to
put more points on the board. We have to correct the negative
things."
A fifth-year pro, Westbrook never has been the featured back on
the Eagles. He split time with Duce Staley and Correll Buckhalter
early in his career and doesn't get the ball as much as Tiki
Barber, Shaun Alexander, LaDainian Tomlinson or Larry Johnson.
Westbrook catches more passes than other backs, though, and he's
already reached 60 receptions for the third straight season.
Since coming out of Villanova, the knock against Westbrook has
been size and durability. He's 5-foot-8 and 203 pounds and has
never played a full season without being injured. He missed several
practices this season with a foot injury and sat out one game in
Week 4.
Westbrook had a breakout year in 2004, when the Eagles went to
the Super Bowl. He finished with 812 yards rushing, 73 catches for
703 yards and nine TDs in 13 games on his way to the Pro Bowl.
He could end up in Hawaii again this year and is well on his way
to his first 1,000-yard season.
"Before the season starts, you always put goals out there,"
Westbrook said. "My individual goals never come before team
goals."
| | | No defense for Eagles - 11/28/2006 Source: National Football League News Wire Donovan McNabb could only help the
Philadelphia Eagles if he played defense.
The offense wasn't the problem for the Eagles in their first
game without their five-time Pro Bowl quarterback. Jeff Garcia
played well in his first start since McNabb's season-ending injury,
but the defense was completely overwhelmed in a 45-21 loss to the
Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night.
Peyton Manning didn't have to throw much because the Colts ran
at will against a defense that has struggled mightily against the
run. Rookie Joseph Addai rushed for 171 yards and the Colts
finished with 271 yards on the ground, becoming the third team in
four games to run for over 200 yards against Philadelphia's
once-feared defense.
"We need to get better at stopping the run," coach Andy Reid
said Monday, stating the obvious. "I didn't think it was a lack of
effort. I thought they were aggressive. We had too many blown
assignments. It comes down to assignments and it comes down to
scheme. The mental part of it, I thought they were emotionally
ready to go."
The Eagles couldn't stop the run early in the game when Manning
mixed in a few passes and kept the defense off-balance. But the
most troubling aspect was the fact the Eagles had no solution when
they knew the Colts would be running the ball to work the clock in
the fourth quarter.
After Brian Westbrook's 6-yard TD run cut Indianapolis' lead to
31-21 with 10:13 left, the Eagles desperately needed their defense
to make a stop and force a punt.
Instead, Addai and Dominic Rhodes ran 13 straight times on the
ensuing drive as the Colts drove 73 yards, chewed up 6:35 and
sealed the game with another score.
It didn't matter which defensive formation the Eagles used -- an
extra defensive back instead of a linebacker or basic -- against the
Colts. The front four didn't generate any rush on Manning, who was
hardly touched. The linebackers were manhandled and the secondary
ended up making a lot of tackles on ballcarries too far downfield.
"Most frustrating is that at crunch time, we couldn't stop the
run," defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said after the game. "We
never really got them in nickel situations enough. We didn't do a
good job in either front, base or nickel." | | | Garcia gets nod to replace McNabb as Eagles quarterback - 11/23/2006 Source: National Football League News Wire Jeff Garcia will replace Donovan McNabb as
the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback Sunday against
Indianapolis.
Eagles coach Andy Reid said he thinks Garcia, signed last March,
was simply the best person for the job.
"I think it's important that I have the confidence from coach
Reid that I am the guy, that this team knows who the quarterback is
going to be," said Garcia, who was chosen over A.J. Feeley as
McNabb's replacement.
Garcia has spent a large part of his career working in the West
Coast offense. He also spent two seasons in San Francisco with
current Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.
"He has a lot of experience in this offense," Reid said.
Garcia completed 26 of 48 passes for 189 yards after McNabb tore
a ligament in his right knee in the second quarter in Sunday's
31-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
McNabb, a five-time Pro Bowl quarterback, was a big reason the
Eagles had the league's second-ranked offense. Garcia, who is in
his seventh season in the NFL, has a 39-47 record as a starter.
"Jeff's an experienced guy and he's been to some Pro Bowls,"
Philadelphia wide receiver Donte' Stallworth said. "He's played a
lot of football and he's obviously very familiar with this offense.
He brings some experience and leadership."
| | | Eagles minus 5 = zero - 11/20/2006 Source: Philadelphia Daily News BURY THE Eagles season at Wounded Knee.
For the first time, Andy Reid did not begin the postmortem with the word, "Injuries."
On this dark occasion, the somber coach cut to the chase.
"All right, Donovan McNabb," Reid said to the hushed media mob in the Linc's interview room. "He has an ACL tear. That's an 8-months-to-a-year injury, so he's done for the year."
And if I'm reading the calendar right, the fast-rehab figure of 8 months takes the Eagles to the cusp of training camp. The worst-case 12 months takes them to midseason 2007.
Lose your best hitter in baseball for that period of time and it's bad, really bad. But baseball has no salary cap. You can spend to replace, the way the Chicago Cubs blew the Phillies out of the water yesterday in the Alfonso Soriano sweepstakes. You can call up a minor league hotshot, if you have one. You can trade.
The Yankees lost two All-Star outfielders, Hideki Matsui and Gary Sheffield, early last season and scarcely missed a beat.
But lose the franchise quarterback and it's game, set, match and season.
At 1:58 p.m., with a hushed crowd standing, the green gurney backed out of the spot where McNabb landed out of bounds in front of the Tennessee Titans bench around midfield. He had taken a big hit, a clean hit, by defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch after rolling right and throwing incomplete to Donté Stallworth. He was pinwheeled on the hit, but it is not clear whether the right knee was
injured by the hit itself or when he landed awkwardly out of bounds. Now he was being driven up the tunnel with a badly scrambled right knee. | | | Titans take down Eagles, McNabb - 11/19/2006 Source: NFL.com Donovan McNabb 's season is over early -- again.
The Philadelphia Eagles lost their star quarterback for the rest of the year with a torn knee ligament in a 31-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
McNabb will have surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and is expected to be sidelined from eight months to one year. It's the third time in five years McNabb has gone down with six or more games remaining in the regular season.
"It's an unfortunate thing," said Jeff Garcia, who replaced McNabb. "Donovan is a competitor, a leader and he was having a great season. He'll be missed."
McNabb was injured on the second play of the second quarter on a seemingly harmless play. He was rolling to his right near the Tennessee sideline and was bumped out of bounds by Kyle Vanden Bosch after throwing an incomplete pass. He grabbed his right knee and was immediately tended to by trainers before being carted off the field.
"If he was running to the sideline trying to get out of bounds, I don't take that shot, but he reared up and tried to throw it and I was trying to get a hand in his face," Vanden Bosch said. "I never play with the intent to get anybody hurt. It's a freak deal."
Without McNabb, the Eagles were no match for the lowly Titans.
Travis Henry had a 70-yard touchdown run, Adam "Pacman" Jones returned a punt 90 yards for a score and Vince Young was efficient.
Garcia was 26-for-48 for 189 yards and one TD filling in for McNabb, who threw an interception in the end zone in the first quarter.
Eagles coach Andy Reid wouldn't say whether Garcia or third-stringer A.J. Feeley would start at Indianapolis next week.
"We didn't take advantage of opportunities, even with Donovan in there," Reid said. | | | Eagles QB McNabb suffers knee injury, carted off field - 11/19/2006 Source: National Football League News Wire Donovan McNabb's season again has
ended prematurely.
The five-time Pro Bowl quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles
suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in the second quarter of
Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Rolling to his right, McNabb was pushed out of bounds by
defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and landed awkwardly. McNabb
got to his feet but was unable to put any weight on the leg
before he was taken off the field on a cart.
Eagles coach Andy Reid confirmed in his postgame news
conference that McNabb would undergo surgery in the near
future.
Last season, McNabb missed the final seven games after
undergoing surgery for a sports hernia. He missed the
final six games in 2002 with a broken leg, then returned
for the playoffs.
McNabb entered Sunday's game tied with Peyton Manning for the
league lead with 18 touchdown passes and was second with
2,569 passing yards. He was 6-of-13 for 78 yards and an
interception before leaving Sunday's game.
Losing McNabb is a crushing blow for the Eagles (5-5), who have
lost four of their last five games following a 4-1 start.
Last season, McNabb underwent surgery and missed the final seven
games for the Eagles, who went 5-11 a season after reaching the
Super Bowl.
McNabb also missed the final six games in 2002 with a broken leg,
then returned for the playoffs.
Without McNabb, the Eagles will turn to eight-year veteran Jeff
Garcia, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason.
Garcia struggled after replacing McNabb on Sunday, completing
26-of-48 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown. | | | Eagles splash past Redskins 27-3 - 11/12/2006 Source: NFL.com The Philadelphia Eagles' stale offense needed a couple tweaks to get going. A lucky break and some fresh ideas did the trick.
Donovan McNabb threw an 84-yard touchdown pass to Donte' Stallworth, Sheldon Brown returned an interception 70 yards for a score and the Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak with a 27-3 victory against the Washington Redskins.
Coach Andy Reid turned over playcalling duties to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg after a 13-6 home loss to Jacksonville. The result was a balanced attack featuring more runs than passes for the first time this season.
"We were in a rut offensively and I was calling the plays," Reid said. "I told you it starts with me, so, take a close look at yourself and you move on."
It was a costly loss for the Redskins, who lost Clinton Portis to a broken right hand in the first quarter. It wasn't immediately known how long Washington (3-6) would be without its star running back. Coach Joe Gibbs said Portis might require surgery.
The Eagles (5-4) improved to 8-0 following a bye under Reid while earning their first victory since beating Dallas 38-24 in Terrell Owens' return to Philadelphia on Oct. 8.
McNabb completed 12 of 26 passes for 222 yards. Stallworth had six catches for 139 yards and Brian Westbrook ran for 113 yards. | | | 'Overrated' Urlacher could be NFL MVP - 10/30/2006 Source: Chicago Sun-Times The thing we must do, in this reactionary sports town of ours, is ignore all silly polls and ''overrated'' hogwash about Brian Urlacher. This junk is nothing but professional jealousy, a feeling in some NFL locker rooms that Urlacher is too commercialized by a league that aches to market the ferocity -- and whiteness -- of a seek-and-destroy, video-game attacker doing his work in the city of linebackers in a ''Madden '07'' world.
If the target himself can dismiss the bashing with an annoyed shrug, shouldn't we?
''Watch the field,'' Urlacher the Linebacker said by his locker after making one of the most athletic, acrobatic plays you'll see in any sport. ''I don't know what people are saying, and I'm not going to worry about it anymore. All I can do is go out and play football. That's all I've done my whole career.''
Think your workplace is the only one smeared by catty, cutthroat politics? Even in the grunt-and-spit domain of pro football, some players aren't immune to answering ''Urlacher'' when Sports Illustrated inquires about the ''most overrated player,'' all because they see him on commercials and billboards and know he once had a little fun with Paris Hilton in Las Vegas, where what happened obviously didn't stay in Vegas. The dissing started a couple of years ago, when the Sporting News lapped up some much-needed attention and declared him the league's most overrated player.
We saw how Urlacher answered last season, winning the league's Defensive Player of the Year award. Now consider Sunday at Soldier Field, a few days after the SI poll was released and prompted Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera to rip the detractors as ''a bunch of haters.'' How did the embattled hype-monster respond this time?
| | | Jags shut down Eagles for 13-6 win - 10/29/2006 Source: NFL.com The Philadelphia Eagles had a dropped pass, a penalty and a sack on their first three plays.
It only got worse for the NFL's top-ranked offense against a Jacksonville defense missing three starters.
Fred Taylor keyed a strong running attack, backup quarterback David Garrard was efficient and the Jaguars shut down Donovan McNabb in a 13-6 victory Sunday.
"As a team, it was embarrassing," McNabb said. "Offensively as a unit, we weren't able to do our job."
Jacksonville held the Eagles to 229 total yards -- 164 before the last drive. Philadelphia came in averaging a league-best 417 yards per game, but couldn't generate much, even with the return of dynamic receiver Donte' Stallworth.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars kept it simple on offense without injured quarterback Byron Leftwich and relied on Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew, who totaled 103 and 77 yards rushing respectively. Of the Jaguars' 285 total yards, 209 were gained on the ground. | | | Bryant's 62-yard boot gives Bucs win - 10/22/2006 Source: NFL.com Nothing in Matt Bryant's career suggested he was capable of making the kick of his life.
He was surprised he even got a chance.
Bryant nailed a 62-yard field goal -- the third-longest in NFL history -- to give the Tampa Bay Buccaneers an improbable 23-21 last-second victory over Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
The kick ruined a gallant comeback engineered by McNabb after the Bucs built a 17-0 lead, mostly on the strength of two interceptions that Ronde Barber returned for touchdowns. It was the longest of Bryant's career by 12 yards, and came on just his third attempt of 50 or more yards in five seasons with the Bucs, Giants, Colts and Dolphins.
"To tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting even to be given a shot at 62," said Bryant, who was 0-for-3 from beyond 40 yards until coach Jon Gruden decided his chances of making the longest kick of his career was better than throwing a TD pass from midfield on the final play.
"Just to be able to go out there and help the team win -- just to try to do your job, but do it that way, it doesn't get much better than that."
Tom Dempsey and Jason Elam share the league record for the longest field goal - 63 yards. The only other kickers who have been successful from beyond 59 yards are Steve Cox and Morten Andersen, who both booted 60-yarders. | | | Justice at last? Rook could be in line for start - 10/20/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer TWO YEARS AGO, Winston Justice couldn't even get near a football practice field. The offensive tackle was suspended from USC for his sophomore year after pulling a toy gun on another student. Justice's travels were monitored by an ankle bracelet and limited to trips from his mother's house to private workouts and the Southern Cal campus for counseling. He couldn't watch his Trojans practice, couldn't attend a game. Fantasy Impact: Although Justice was considered a good o-line prospect, you have to be weary of a rookie starter on the line. Even worse is that he'd be facing a top pass-rusher in Simeon Rice. Move the Eagles offense down slightly if he starts. | | | Saints win again on last-second FG, 27-24 - 10/16/2006 Source: NFL.com After a quiet five games, Joe Horn suddenly looked like the star player he was in 2004, with his shoulder-shaking end zone dances and game-changing catches.
He wasn't the only one dancing.
A packed crowd in the Louisiana Superdome watched the revamped New Orleans Saints pull out a legitimizing victory over one of most feared teams in the NFL. Kept out of the end zone until Week 6, Horn caught touchdown passes of 14 and 48 yards, then John Carney hit a 31-yard field goal as time expired for a 27-24 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I've got to keep doing a better job of getting him involved early on," Saints first-year coach Sean Payton said of his veteran receiver, who finished with six catches for 110 yards. "He plays hard and has been fantastic. He is everything you want in a player. If he has two catches and we win he is happy. ... I admire that about him."
New Orleans (5-1) enters its bye week atop the NFC South. If anyone still doubts the surprising start of a team that went 3-13 last season, the Eagles (4-2), favored on the road coming in, can't be counted among the critics. Nor could many in the raucous, sold-out Superdome, which rained down earsplitting cheers in support of New Orleans' defense and erupted in celebration as Carney's winning kick left his foot clearly on target.
"It's a whole different team," said Eagles defensive end Darren Howard, who played for New Orleans last season. "They're doing it with a young set of guys who don't remember what happened in years past. ... It's six games and they're 5-1. It's hard to say anything but they're legitimate."
John Carney was perfect on his 31-yard field goal as time expired.
The Saints' leading receiver much of the past six seasons, Horn was a non-factor for most of 2005 after pulling a hamstring. Now healthy, the 34-year-old was off to a relatively slow start.
The talkative Horn also has not spoken to reporters for about three weeks and did not meet with the media after Week 6's game because of what team officials described as a family emergency.
Meanwhile, Drew Brees continued his impressive start in New Orleans after offseason throwing-shoulder surgery. He completed 27 of 37 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns and did not take a sack against a defense that has 23 this season. | | | McNabb shines as Eagles foil T.O.'s return - 10/08/2006 Source: NFL.com With Terrell Owens watching from the sideline, Donovan McNabb turned ordinary receivers into big-time playmakers.
As for T.O., the most overhyped homecoming in recent memory was totally ordinary: three catches, 45 yards, 0 drama.
McNabb threw touchdown passes of 40 yards to Reggie Brown and 87 yards to Hank Baskett, and Lito Sheppard returned an interception 102 yards in the final minute to seal the Eagles' 38-24 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Owens' return to Philadelphia dominated the headlines this week, with Philly fans planning a hostile welcome. But Owens was merely a decoy for most of the game, and those fans were too dazzled by McNabb to fixate much on the erstwhile Eagles receiver who helped them reach the Super Bowl in 2004 before last year's bitter departure.
"It's frustrating," Owens said. "Opportunities were there and we didn't make them. I'm a competitor. I do not like to lose. Maybe I need to work harder."
Not only did Owens not score, he didn't catch a pass until the third quarter -- then dropped the next one thrown to him, much to the delight of a frenzied crowd that showered Owens with derisive chants, insults and boos.
"I was surprised Terrell didn't have more catches. That was not our plan," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after chatting with Owens in the locker room.
The Eagles (4-1) took the lead for good when McNabb connected with Brown on a flea-flicker pass with 9:13 left that made it 31-24. Brown, a second-year pro who replaced a suspended Owens in the starting lineup last year, beat rookie safety Pat Watkins and caught the ball deep in the end zone.
The Cowboys (2-2) drove to the Eagles 33 on the ensuing drive. But Sheppard intercepted Drew Bledsoe's badly underthrown pass -- intended for an open Owens.
Owens angrily snapped at his chin strap, walked off the field and took his usual spot at the end of the bench.
The Cowboys had one more chance after a pass interference penalty on Michael Lewis allowed them to convert a fourth-and-18 from their 37.
But from the Eagles 6, Sheppard stepped in front of Bledsoe's pass and raced the other way to put the game away. Bledsoe threw three interceptions and was sacked seven times.
Notes: Stallworth (hamstring) and CB Rod Hood (heel) missed their second straight game for the Eagles. ... The Eagles snapped a seven-game losing streak against NFC East opponents, including a 30-24 overtime loss in Week 2 to the Giants after they wasted a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter. | | | T.O., McNabb at odds again as receiver returns to Philly (AP) - 10/04/2006 Source: Yahoo!, ESPN Here they go again: Terrell Owens and Donovan McNabb have their signals crossed. Days before the buddies-turned-enemies face off for the first time since their nasty breakup, a misunderstanding is brewing over a text message McNabb says he sent Owens last week after a trip to the hospital was reported as an attempted suicide. Fantasy Impact: The bad blood is back. Expect both to go all-out Sunday to prove they're the better man, and both should put up good fantasy numbers. | | | McNabb's good day is bad one for Favre - 10/03/2006 Source: The Oregonian Donovan McNabb moved the way he did early in his career. Brett Favre had a throwback night, too -- to his days of erratic interceptions.
McNabb ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a 31-9 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday night.
Meanwhile, Favre, who has enjoyed many memorable moments on the national stage throughout his 16-year career, would like to forget this one. Favre misfired badly on several passes, including two interceptions that led to Philadelphia scores.
He left with a slight head injury late in the fourth quarter, but Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he didn't think the injury was serious.
McNabb completed 16 of 30 passes for 288 yards and had 47 yards rushing. He scored on runs of six and 15 yards, and connected with Greg Lewis on touchdown passes of 45 and 30 yards. | | | Eagles feast as the Packers fall apart in the second half - 10/03/2006 Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel They come from different strata of the National Football League food chain, the powerful Philadelphia Eagles and the lowly Green Bay Packers.
But for the first 30 minutes on a balmy Monday night, form didn't hold. For the second 30 minutes, it most assuredly did.
Thus did the Eagles dismiss the Packers, 31-9, before a crowd of 69,222 at Lincoln Financial Field.
An 11½-point underdog, the Packers played a solid, smart first half and left with a 9-7 lead. But in the second half they collapsed on both offense and defense, falling to 1-3 under rookie coach Mike McCarthy as the Eagles improved to 3-1.
The Packers' defense gave ground in the first half but hopped on two fumbles by Correll Buckhalter inside the Green Bay 5. Buckhalter started when coach Andy Reid, mindful of his club's showdown against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, elected to rest Brian Westbrook (knee), the electrifying fulcrum of the NFL's top-ranked passing game.
hiladelphia was a different team to open the third quarter, and Reid's decision to go with diminutive but quick Ryan Moats in place of Buckhalter paid major dividends. Moats carried six times for 21 yards in a 15-play, 57-yard drive culminated by David Akers' 40-yard field goal that gave the Eagles the lead for good, 10-9.
Favre left the game in the fourth quarter on a decision by McCarthy with what was described as a slight head injury.
In defeat, the Packers extended their record of futility to 0-9 in Philadelphia since their last victory in 1962. They are 24-24-1 on "Monday Night Football," including four losses in a row. Favre, who is 17-14 on Monday nights, is 4-8 overall against the Eagles, including 0-6 in Philadelphia. | | | McNabb's four scores lift Eagles to win - 10/03/2006 Source: NFL.com Donovan McNabb juked and jived the way he did early in his career. Brett Favre had a throwback night, too -- to his days of erratic interceptions.
McNabb ran for two touchdowns and threw for a pair, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a 31-9 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday night.
McNabb finished 16-of-30 for 288 yards and had 47 yards rushing. He scored on runs of 6 and 15 yards, and connected with Greg Lewis on TD passes of 45 and 30 yards.
Favre was 22-of-40 for 205 yards and had a passer rating of 44.2. He didn't speak to reporters after the game, and a team spokesman said he was complaining of headaches.
He left with a slight head injury late in the fourth quarter, but Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he didn't think the injury was serious.
Playing without injured running back Brian Westbrook, the Eagles started slow and trailed 9-7 at halftime following three field goals from Green Bay's Dave Rayner, including a 54-yarder that was right down the middle with plenty of distance. Correll Buckhalter, starting for Brian Westbrook, lost two fumbles inside the Packers 5 in the first half.
But McNabb used his legs in the third quarter to ignite the offense and lead the Eagles (3-1) to their third victory by a double-digit margin.
Green Bay played without running back Ahman Green (hamstring) while cornerbacks Lito Sheppard (ankle) and Rod Hood (heel) joined Westbrook (knee) on the sideline for the Eagles.
The Packers (1-3) have lost nine straight to the Eagles in Philly since a 49-0 victory in 1962, when Vince Lombardi was coaching Green Bay.

In each of Philadelphia's first three games, a different player has had 100 yards receiving. It's just the second time since the NFL merger the Eagles have done that. Wideout Donte' Stallworth had six catches for 141 yards and one touchdown in the opener. Fantasy Impact: McNabb is known for spreading the ball around. When the Eagles drafted McNabb with the second overall pick in 1999, the young head coach chosen to nurture the rookie quarterback had come from the Green Bay Packers. Andy Reid, whose last job in Green Bay was as Favre's quarterbacks coach, wasn't shy about telling a raw McNabb about Favre's exceptional preparation and feats.
McNabb wasn't forced to wear a WWFD wristband, but he nonetheless tired of the Favre references and comparisons.
"I still hate to get compared to anyone," McNabb said before the Eagles started practice for Monday night's game against Favre and the Packers at Lincoln Financial Field. "I think early on, when you come in as a rookie, you never want to be compared to a quarterback that has had so much success. To hear people say, 'Well, you're just like him,' or 'I want you to be like so-and-so, and this is what he did to prepare himself.'... You want to make a name for yourself." | | | Fantasy Football: MatchUp Meter - 09/25/2006 Source: Boston Herald Following are complete fantasy football rankings based on this week’s matchups for all the major positions (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, team defense). They are based on a combined yardage/scoring system (4 points for a passing touchdown, 6 points for a rushing/receiving touchdown, one point for every 25 passing yards, one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards).

2/Eli Manning, NYG at SEA

| | | Eagles dominate 49ers from all angles - 09/24/2006 Source: NFL.com Mike Patterson finished his stunning 98-yard fumble return at a walk, easing his 292 pounds into the end zone.
After an outstanding effort in San Francisco, the Philadelphia Eagles deserved a little rest -- especially the big guy.
Brian Westbrook rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns, also catching a scoring pass from Donovan McNabb in the Eagles' 38-24 victory over the 49ers on Sunday.
McNabb passed for 296 yards and Reggie Brown caught five passes for 106 yards as the Eagles (2-1) shook off last week's embarrassing collapse against the Giants, emphatically protecting a huge lead this time with 416 yards of sharp offense.
And one kooky fumble return that will live for years on highlight reels.
Patterson, Philadelphia's genial run-stopping defensive tackle, seized an unlikely moment when Frank Gore fumbled while trying to stretch over a goal-line pile of players in the third quarter.
Patterson scooped the ball out of the pile and lumbered away, getting to midfield before most of the Niners realized it. He eventually walked over the line for the longest scoring fumble return in Eagles history, surpassing a 32-year-old record.
The Niners also lost Gore, who fumbled at the goal line last week as well, and tight end Vernon Davis to injuries on the play.
Alex Smith passed for 293 yards and rookie Michael Robinson scored two touchdowns for the 49ers (1-2), but their good vibe from last week's victory over St. Louis evaporated in a cloud of offensive mistakes and missed tackles.
San Francisco was booed at halftime, but finally got in the end zone after Patterson's record run. Bryan Gilmore's 75-yard catch set up Robinson's 1-yard dive - the former Penn State quarterback's first NFL score. | | | Giants stun Eagles with big comeback - 09/17/2006 Source: NFL.com Eli Manning withstood relentless pressure, endured a pounding and still delivered the knockout punch in overtime.
Manning brought the Giants back from a 17-point deficit in the fourth-quarter and threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress with 3:11 left in the extra period for a 30-24 victory against the Philadelphia Eagles.
A week after his older brother, Peyton Manning, led Indianapolis to a 26-21 victory against New York, Eli Manning survived eight sacks and threw for 371 yards and three TDs. He completed 31 of 43 passes with one interception.
"This one will be something to remember," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said.
Manning tossed a 22-yard TD pass to Amani Toomer with 3:28 left in regulation to cut the deficit to 24-21.
Donovan McNabb passed for 350 yards and two TDs, but the offense was shut down after the first possession of the third quarter.
Donte' Stallworth had a 20-yard TD catch, Reggie Brown had a 23-yard TD reception and L.J. Smith caught seven passes for 111 yards. | | | It's early, but revamped line giving McNabb sense of security - 09/14/2006 Source: Philly.com For all of the offensive questions facing the Eagles before their season opener - Was McNabb healthy? Could he connect with Donté Stallworth? Was Brian Westbrook OK? And how about the young wide receivers? - no one asked too many questions about the offensive line.
Turns out, there wasn't much need to fret.
The newly reassembled line accorded itself more than well, not only protecting McNabb but also allowing the Eagles to - gasp! - run the football. | | | Eagles 24, Texans 10 (AP) - 09/10/2006 Source: Yahoo!, ESPN, Philadelphia Inquirer Who needs T.O.? A healthy and happy Donovan McNabb threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns, including one to Donte' Stallworth, to lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a 24-10 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Eagles, looking to move past their post-Terrell Owens hangover, got a great game from Stallworth in his debut after a trade from the Saints. Fantasy Impact: The Eagles looked great on offense, with McNabb finding targets all over, Stallworth having an excellent debut, and Westbrook impacting the running and passing game. However, this was against the lowly Texans D, so temper your excitement a little. But they definitely had a good game. Sheppard injured his ankle, but X-rays were negative so he should be good by next week. | | | McNabb may be ready to climb special peak - 09/08/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer It is, as Steve Young calls it, "nirvana," that relatively brief window when a quarterback's physical ability and mental understanding of the game share a plateau. It doesn't last long, two years, maybe three, four if you're lucky. Fantasy Impact: If he is about to hit his peak, you have to like his outlook for this season. Move him up slightly. | | | Rich Hofmann | McNabb's go-to guy still a mystery - 09/07/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer They are names on a paper for the most part, nothing more, and there is an unqualified need here to acknowledge the danger inherent in those two words: on paper. Still, you look at the list - Reggie Brown, Donté Stallworth, Greg Lewis, Hank Baskett, Jason Avant - and add up the combination of size, speed, potential and demonstrated production, and it is not hard to conclude that this group of receivers is better than the groups surrounding Donovan McNabb in every year except one. (You... Fantasy Impact: While McNabb traditionally hasn't needed a go-to guy, you would like him to at least have someone capable of filling that role heading into the season. Hopefully it doesn't affect him that much, but up the risk on him slightly. | | | The pass is the thing in Philadelphia - 09/05/2006 Source: RealFootball365 Most football fans probably don't realize just how badly the Philadelphia Eagles needed Donte' Stallworth and, while guys like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning get all the press for their leadership abilities, the most leaned-upon quarterback in the NFL may well be Donovan McNabb. Fantasy Impact: Reid has pledged to run the ball a lot more this year, but with the injuries that have plagued the RB core, it won't surprise to see them pass all day. Watch what they do in the first couple weeks before making final judgments, but move McNabb up a little. | | | Eight not enough: Browns deal for Eagles center Fraley - 09/02/2006 Source: ESPN The Cleveland Browns hope that, when it comes to the center position, nine is enough. Fantasy Impact: The Eagles get rid of a veteran blocker in favor of a youngster. We'll see how this affects the team, but Jackson has looked good as a starter. | | | Philly's winners and losers in the Donte' deal - 09/01/2006 Source: RealFootball365 When the Philadelphia Eagles managed to score WR Donte' Stallworth from the New Orleans Saints, two things were certain to follow: headlines and repercussions. Fantasy Impact: A good summary of the winners and losers from the Stallworth deal. The import figures to post fantasy-worthy numbers and help McNabb be a solid starting QB. Meanwhile, super-sleeper Baskett should be removed from rosters. | | | Reasons to Believe - 08/26/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer The body of work is complete. If coach Andy Reid sticks with the preseason plan he has implemented in the past - and there's no reason to believe he won't - then the first-team offense and defense will be tucked safely on the sideline Friday night at the Meadowlands when the Eagles close out the preseason against the New York Jets. Fantasy Impact: As long as there are no freak injuries in the final game, it will be interesting only for fringe players looking to make the roster. The Eagles now look to the regular season with confidence. | | | Fraley willing to take hike to new position, or team - 08/23/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer TWO SEASONS AGO, Hank Fraley was on top of the world. No longer an anonymous offensive linemen, he had become a personality complete with nickname (Honey Buns) and radio show. Fantasy Impact: Fraley is a savvy veteran blocker, and the Eagles could suffer a bit if he is moved. | | | Page 2: Madden player rankings - 08/22/2006 Source: ESPN, ESPN Does your guy make Madden's Top 10? | | | Bob Ford | A sign of uncertainty for Reid's offense - 08/22/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer Andy Reid cleared his throat yesterday and noted that the Eagles were now back on their "in-season schedule" at the NovaCare Complex, their home at home and not to be confused by anyone with their home away from home in the scenic convection oven on the campus of Wayupthere University. | | | Fraley might end up working the swing shift - 08/19/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer IT WAS an intriguing notion, even if Hank Fraley didn't read too much into it. Fraley, the Eagles' starting center since 2001, has all but officially lost his starting job to Jamaal Jackson. Thursday night in Baltimore, Fraley got a series with the first-team offense, as the left guard, replacing Todd Herremans. Fantasy Impact: Interesting that Fraley is now working at guard and Herremans at tackle. Fraley has the veteran savvy to be a decent guard, and could be an upgrade over the 2nd-year Herremans. | | | RECEIVERS NEED TO GET A GRIP - 08/18/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer Donovan McNabb, standing in the pocket, patting the ball and looking, looking, looking... Unless the Eagles do something to improve their corps of wideouts, you might see a lot of that this season. You saw more than a little of it last night, in the half McNabb and the first-team offense played against the Baltimore Ravens, whose reserves pummeled the Birds' reserves in the second half for a 20-10 preseason victory at M & T Bank Stadium. Fantasy Impact: The WRs did not have a good showing, and until they show improvement or a new WR is imported, you have to downgrade the Eagles offense. | | | On in-patients and out-patients in Philadelphia - 08/17/2006 Source: RealFootball365 "This is a Super Bowl team," Donovan McNabb emphatically stated this week of his Philadelphia Eagles, crafting visions of "possibly 13-3 or 14-2 possibly" to dance in the heads of his fans. Fantasy Impact: The Eagles are nursing many injuries, and we saw what happened last year with all their injuries. Be more careful with them. | | | BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Donovan McNabb saw a trip to Miami for Super Bowl XLI in his crystal ball on Monday. His Eagles teammates said yesterday that they'd love to take the ride with him. - 08/16/2006 Source: Philadelphia Inquirer BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Donovan McNabb saw a trip to Miami for Super Bowl XLI in his crystal ball on Monday. His Eagles teammates said yesterday that they'd love to take the ride with him. | | | Eagles' leader is undisputed again - 08/13/2006 Source: Dallas Star-Telegram With Terrell Owens gone, the Eagles have put their trust in Donovan McNabb. | | | Browns offense throttled by Eagles in 20-7 preseason loss - 08/10/2006 Source: Dayton Daily News Kellen Winslow Jr. sharpened his blocking skills while showing only a glimpse of his talent as a receiver. Playing his first game in nearly two years, the brash Browns tight end made two catches in Cleveland's 20-7 preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night. Fantasy Impact: This isn't good news for Winslow or anyone else on the Browns offense. Look elsewhere for fantasy help this season. | | | John Smallwood | McNabb a Hall of a QB - 08/04/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer Donovan McNabb isn't a nose-in-the-dictionary historian on NFL quarterbacks. And since he's still only 29 and entering only his eighth season in the NFL, he has not taken much time to contemplate whether he is on pace to rank with the all-time greats someday. | | | CATCHING fire - 08/03/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer Receivers who are new to the Eagles have a complex, confusing offense to deal with - that topic has been covered quite thoroughly during the Andy Reid Era. | | | McNabb lauds two heroes - 08/03/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer Donovan McNabb is never shy about showing the loquacious side of his personality, but the Eagles quarterback wasn't the youngest person named to the Board of Trustees at Syracuse University for cracking jokes. | | | Ouch: Is Reggie Brown really No. 1 in Philly? - 08/01/2006 Source: RealFootball365 When Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Reggie Brown limped off the Lehigh University practice field on Saturday after a single play, he wasn't the only one wincing. Fantasy Impact: This is the main problem for the Eagles, the lack of a no.1 WR. If Brown or another WR can't step up, the offense will suffer. | | | Eagles Update - 07/29/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer After four days of hitting at Eagles camp, the bodies are starting to fall. Yet the most significant news of the first week is that one of those bodies isn't Donovan McNabb's. Fantasy Impact: Important for McNabb to remain healthy and carry this offense. Drop his risk a little. | | | Eagles Daily Update - 07/27/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The pocket collapsed on Donovan McNabb and the Eagles quarterback deftly escaped the pressure, rolled to his left and threw a bullet in wide receiver Greg Lewis' direction. Fantasy Impact: Good to see McNabb having increased mobility. It should help him escape the rush, get off more throws, and gain more rushing yards. | | | You can't keep a good clown down - 07/27/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer Skullcap pulled over his face, Donovan McNabb made like a ninja Spiderman, playfully jabbing and poking at athletic trainer Rick Burkholder after a steaming and lengthy morning practice. | | | McNabb was just the man for this aerobics class - 07/27/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer As they made their way to Lifetime Fitness in Arizona for their daily workout, people found themselves doing more than one double take. Fantasy Impact: McNabb can work out any way he likes, as long as it works. His newfound muscle and flexibility should help him some. | | | Eagles Camp Update | McNabb vows to be more mobile this season - 07/26/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer A typically chipper Donovan McNabb said he is looking forward to using his mobility again this year, after a season plagued by injury. Fantasy Impact: If he comes through on his vow, he will gain more rushing yards and buy more time to pass. | | | As backup, Garcia wants to go forward - 07/24/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer The similarities between the Eagles' new backup quarterback and their longtime starter go well beyond their mutual role as villains in Terrell Owens' mind and books. | | | David Aldridge: Birds need Jim Johnson strong, too - 07/23/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer Of equal import to the fortunes of the Birds this season are the return to functionality of many body parts: Donovan McNabb's groin, and Lito Sheppard's ankle, and David Akers' hamstring, and Todd Pinkston's Achilles tendon, and Sheldon Brown's shoulder. Fantasy Impact: The Eagles are coming off a lot of injuries, but if they are healthy they can be useful fantasy options. | | | Fact and Friction - 07/22/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer The weight of the Eagles' season remained securely attached to Donovan McNabb's back as the team went through its first workout of training camp yesterday. | | | McNabb's turn to fire shots at T.O. (AP) - 07/21/2006 Source: ESPN, ESPM, ESPN Donovan McNabb does a better job avoiding tacklers than lingering questions about Terrell Owens. Speaking to reporters after practice Friday, a cordial McNabb called Owens' recently released autobiography a "children's book," mocked the star receiver for saying he was misquoted in his own book and disputed some of the written allegations. Fantasy Impact: McNabb and the Eagles have to get past the TO debacle if they are going to rebound in 2006. | | | Moss chimes in on T.O.-McNabb feud - 07/20/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer Randy Moss put his two cents into the ongoing Terrell Owens-Donovan McNabb feud in an ESPN radio interview yesterday. Moss, the Oakland wide receiver who carved out his fame with the Minnesota Vikings, said T.O. was too worried about the money Moss made and said the Eagles quarterback was too worried about losing the spotlight. | | | Eagles' pre-camp Q&A - 07/19/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer 1 How soon will we know whether last season was an aberration or the start of a long decline? A: Obviously, we'll have some idea early in the season, particularly if things go badly, but assuming a decent start against teams like the Texans and 49ers, there's a good chance we won't know for sure whether the Birds are back in the saddle until after the Nov. 5 bye. This time the bye comes at exactly the halfway point for the Eagles. Six of the eight second-half games are within the conference, and... Fantasy Impact: The Eagles are not very stocked at the pass-catching positions, meaning McNabb could see trouble. | | | Pasquarelli: Backup QBs heavily sought in offseason - 07/19/2006 Source: ESPN With so many projected starting QBs recovering from injuries, teams placed a heavy emphasis on acquiring backups this offseason. Fantasy Impact: It is always important to have a strong backup at QB. With 3-time Pro Bowler Garcia behind McNabb, the offense shouldn't suffer much if a QB injury occurs. | | | Phil Sheridan | McNabb carrying a world of weight - 07/16/2006 Source: Philadelphia Enquirer Donovan McNabb will make a little bit of involuntary history when the Eagles open training camp at Lehigh University this week. He will begin a season with more pressure on him than any Philadelphia athlete in recent memory, maybe ever. McNabb may as well have equipment manager John Hatfield stitch the letters "A-T-L-A-S" over the No. 5 on his back, because he will have the weight of the world on his shoulders this year. Fantasy Impact: McNabb is a great leader, and it wouldn’t surprise to see him thrive under this pressure. Careful though, as he doesn't have a great cast of WRs. | | | Paolantonio: Owens blames McNabb in new book - 07/13/2006 Source: ESPN In his new book "T.O.," WR Terrell Owens suggests that QB Donovan McNabb kept the team from reinstating him. Fantasy Impact: An interesting accusation by TO. Their first game should be fun, but this shouldn't have much affect on their fantasy prospects. |
