Player Analysis: O'Sullivan is a bit of a project of offensive coordinator Mike Martz, but with Alex Smith out of the picture he'll have plenty of chances to prove his mettle. Kurt Warner was once in the same position, taking over the reigns from a highly hyped but largely ineffective quarterback in a Mike Martz system, how'd he turn out?

Fantasy Football Impact: I'm not saying O'Sullivan is MVP material, only that Martz has a track record of success. Hell, he made Jon Kitna into a viable fantasy quarterback.

The quarterback competition is wide open in San Francisco, and whoever gets the job could be a potential sleeper with Mike Martz running the offense.

Fantasy Impact: If anyone not named Alex Smith is the starting quarterback, I would be shocked. He may have some flaws, but if he's no better than J.T. O'Sullivan or Shaun Hill the 49ers scouting staff needs to take a long hard look at itself.
